Illustration Friday: "Ferocious"

In an American tall tale, Pecos Bill roped a ferocious tornado with his rattlesnake lasso and rode it all the way to California.  There, as it rained itself out, Bill fell off.  When he fell, he created a low spot in the ground that became Death Valley.  Come to think of it, Bill was pretty ferocious himself!

  3. The perspective is dramatic and really demonstrates how ferocious the tornado is, and that it is certainly a tall.. tall tale.

  5. Wow! That's incredible! Great line work and the perspective really gives a sense of the towering ferocity of the tornado (I love the cowboy attempting to tame the swirling cloud-monster, too!)

  6. The story of Pecos Bill is taught in our school's unit on folk tales and legends...this would be great in a textbook - kids would love it!

@Sarah, I've done lots of educational illustration over the last several years and I thought this piece might be something that would fit that genre without being pigeonholed there. Your comment is very encouraging!
