did you digitally draw the rest after the sketch or just use the ink. did you also later use water color just a bit intrigued , its a lovely piece of work
Hi Ange! Thank you. Nothing on this piece was done digitally except scanning and resizing the final version to post. I drew it with crow quill pen and ink and then painted watercolor over the drawing. Some of the highlights were left white but I also lifted some color off with a tissue while the paint was still wet.
LOVE the detail of the ink combined with the loose watercolor wash. Awesome!!! I wish I had hair as beautiful as that!!! :) And I really enjoyed seeing the in progress pix!!
Thanks, Mit! Mermaids do have an unfair advantage with hair. They never go out in the wind or get bed-head or hat hair. Their hair never even looks dirty! ;-)
Lovely, the drawing is so fluid.

DeleteYour mermaid illustration is beautiful. I love the colouring of the water paint.
ReplyDeleteWait, is this the same mermaid?http://busydrawing.blogspot.com/2013/02/house-red-with-mermaid.html
ReplyDeleteGot over her boredom at last? ;D
Haha, I didn't think of that! Or maybe this is a prequel...poor bored mermaid goes searching for excitement and ends up in a wine glass...
DeleteOh that's Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Celeste! :)

ReplyDeleteThat white space on the right really makes the whole illustration...plus, anything with mermaids totally wins me over every time :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm a sucker for mermaids too. Thanks for your comment, Sarah!
DeleteThis is gorgeous! Your line quality is always so beautiful. Paired with that exquisite blue wash...amazing!
ReplyDeleteThank you very much!
DeleteGorgeous! I totally love these process shots!
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's easier to do process shots now that I can just take a quick picture with my phone as I work. I'm glad you like them! :)
