  1. Your mermaid illustration is beautiful. I love the colouring of the water paint.

    1. Haha, I didn't think of that! Or maybe this is a prequel...poor bored mermaid goes searching for excitement and ends up in a wine glass...

  4. Hi Ange! Thank you. Nothing on this piece was done digitally except scanning and resizing the final version to post. I drew it with crow quill pen and ink and then painted watercolor over the drawing. Some of the highlights were left white but I also lifted some color off with a tissue while the paint was still wet.

  5. LOVE the detail of the ink combined with the loose watercolor wash. Awesome!!! I wish I had hair as beautiful as that!!! :) And I really enjoyed seeing the in progress pix!!

  6. Thanks, Mit! Mermaids do have an unfair advantage with hair. They never go out in the wind or get bed-head or hat hair. Their hair never even looks dirty! ;-)

  7. That white space on the right really makes the whole illustration...plus, anything with mermaids totally wins me over every time :)

    1. Thanks! It's easier to do process shots now that I can just take a quick picture with my phone as I work. I'm glad you like them! :)
